Truckers need more tangible forms of relief, Sidelinger said. He estimated that as many as 50 have stopped hauling due to high prices. Coalition members have predicted that mills will start running short of fiber if truckers cannot afford to haul it to them, or that some mills will be forced to shut down if they have to assume fuel costs. Diesel prices have risen by about a dollar a gallon since last year. In Maine, they average about $3.70 a gallon, compared to $3.62 a gallon across New England and $3.39 nationwide, Sidelinger said. "Why is New England 30 cents higher than the national average and why is Maine 8 cents higher than the New England average? The same question keeps coming up and we never get clear answers," Sidelinger said. "That's just the way that it is." "These are all just short-term solutions," Sidelinger added.
Passageways concludes year of innovation, acquisitions
Passageways, a company in Purdue Research Park, is preparing to close the books on a very productive year. The 4-year-old West Lafayette-based firm provides solutions
that enhance internal communications for the financial services industry. This fall it added 66 new clients through the acquisition of the Instant Intranet Builder product from Engineered Business Solutions in Houston. Since then, the company has launched new products and been selected to streamline internal communications and data management for additional financial institutions. Passageways introduced its Knowledge Management and Learning Management applications in
mid-November at the BAI Retail Delivery Conference and Expo in Las Vegas. "The launch of these two customizable products adds further information management capabilities to the Passageways portal," said co-founder and Vice President Christopher Beltran.

Raiding the Himalayas
The state chapter of the Society for Promoting of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth (SPIC MACAY) has come into existence more than 30 years the organisation was founded. A senior state administrative services officer, Ms Purnima Chauhan, who is herself an accomplished singer, has been aptly made its chairperson. She has not lost much time in making the organisation functional by arranging concerts in various educational institutions in the state capital. The inaugural event, a performance by noted Kathakali Dancer, Kalamandlam Gopi, was held at the St. Bedes College. It was a good learning experience for the young students as the nuances of Kathakali were explained in detail during the performance. It not only requires dancing skills but also a high degree of physical fitness for which the performers have to work vary hard.
